Every year Father’s Day comes and goes without much of a fuss. It’s a known fact that Mother’s Day is the largest day of the year for Iconic restaurants like The Cheesecake Factory,Goldilock’s and Gerry’s Grill, as millions of us flood their businesses on this huge holiday. All of us will get all dressed-up; the kid’s will wear their Sunday finest, complete with little curls, and shiny shoes. We’ll make extra preparations so that we can include our grandparents and great grandparents.
I’ve even been made aware that I often ‘leave-out’ the Dad’s in my articles as well. The vast majority of my advice columns are geared towards the ladies. In my defense, I never realized that the gentlemen out there were interested in my advice, you never told me.
That being said, I would like to thank my father, Hector who has been one of the ‘unsung heroes’ in my life. Hector, like many good Pinoy fathers, taught me a the values of discipline, professionalism and the long-term relationships. That quiet, unassuming, but yet steady force that is the Pinoy way. It’s proven immensely valuable to me as an adult and obviously, evidenced by the success of the Philippines over the past few decades and the success of Balikbayans here in the States, the Pinoy way works –generation after generation.
Another aspect of what makes a Great Dad that is often overlooked in our culture is the ability to accept and embrace their children for who they are and whatever career they choose to pursue. I am a classic example of one such child and Iam confident I represent others who wish to thank allfathers who have supported and loved unconditionally throughout our life journeys. I am the legacy of my dadHector,i’m a businessman, a family man, ambitious, a published writer, a good cook and spouse, a kind and loving individual, and an overall successful. Thank you dad!.
